This our project’s video for the Shell Eco-marathon.
As you will see here, it’s not about the vehicle we are going to talk about but it’s all about the test bench we made. It is supposed to represent the vehicle in two different ways : The electric part with a little DC motor, and the mechanic part with a pulley. All that is supposed to represent an electric braking system, with energy recovering, just like in your hybrid or electric cars nowadays.
Well, it might look interesting at first, but let us explain how it works. The purpose of this is to run the engine, and make everything rotate at a certain speed and frequency. When everything is moving, we have simulated the kinetic energy we could have with a vehicle. The next step from there, is to switch off the DC motor, and recover the kinetic energy in electric energy by using supercapacitors.
